Apple announced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro on Wednesday 28 October 2026, and it starts at $2,899. The machine is sold as the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, and a fully specced 16-inch model costs $14,549. Pre-orders opened the day of the announcement, and the first machines reach customers and Apple stores on 6 November 2026.

Apple lists three firsts for this laptop: its first Mac with a touchscreen, its first Mac with OLED and its first Mac with Dynamic Island. Apple showed it at its “Pro and tell” event.

The price ladder

The touchscreen model costs $400 more than the regular MacBook Pro in each size. The mini-LED laptop starts at $2,499 for the 14-inch and $2,999 for the 16-inch. The launch prices:

The storage is where the money goes

The Verge reports that the top build uses an M5 Max with an 18-core CPU and a 40-core GPU, and that 128 GB of memory adds $2,000. The same report puts 16 TB of storage at $7,000 and calls that option “the real budget breaker”, tied to the current memory shortage. Memory prices have gone up close to 500 percent in a year, and AI data centers have already booked 2027 supply.

The step from the model it replaces is small until the options are added. Last generation’s 16-inch MacBook Pro topped out at $10,149. The new 16-inch with the $3,000 8 TB option comes to $10,549, which is $400 above the old maximum. The 16 TB option is double the storage any earlier MacBook Pro has shipped with, because 8 TB was the previous ceiling.

The same pressure shows up in the Mac Studio. Apple priced a Mac Studio with 512 GB of memory at $22,299, which is $15,500 over the M5 Ultra base with 96 GB, and $29,799 with 16 TB of storage. Delivery for that machine runs from late November to early December.

What else is new

The panel is a tandem OLED with touch, in sizes that are effectively unchanged: 14.2 and 16.3 inches. Peak brightness is 2,000 nits, up from 1,600, and Adobe RGB is supported along with the reference modes. Dynamic Island has replaced the notch.

This is the first MacBook Pro design overhaul since 2021. The 14-inch weighs 3.0 lb against 3.5 lb before, the 16-inch 4.0 lb against 4.7 lb. The Apple logo on the lid lights up again for the first time in close to ten years, and the hinge is new.

Inside is the same silicon as the mini-LED MacBook Pro: M5 Pro or M5 Max. The M5 Pro models take 24, 48 or 64 GB of memory and 1, 2 or 4 TB of storage. The M5 Max models take 36, 48, 64 or 128 GB and 2, 4, 8 or 16 TB. Battery life is unchanged at up to 22 hours for the 14-inch and up to 24 hours for the 16-inch, and 30 minutes of fast charging gets either one to 50 percent.

Every model keeps three Thunderbolt 5 ports at up to 120 Gb/s, HDMI, an SDXC slot, MagSafe 3 and a headphone jack. The camera is the same 12 MP Center Stage unit, but the new model adds Advanced Video Stabilization.
